Thanksgiving!

To celebrate Thanksgiving in 2024, the bilingual class, 8a, decided to dedicate a whole day to it and spend a nice Thanksgiving dinner with each other.

First, Ms. Tayeh and Mrs. Chandler planned everything with us a few days ahead. So on the 29th of November 2024, a day after the actual Thanksgiving, we all met up in our classroom. We then learned about the importance of Thanksgiving and how and why exactly it’s celebrated. With the new information we had found out, we had to do some fun assignments with our friends/classmates. We also discussed whether Thanksgiving is a good or bad tradition and if it should be continued.

After that, we went into a room in our school cafeteria, where we first sat down and wrote about different things we are grateful for. For example: our family, friends, etc. We got to hang those papers up on the whiteboard.

Soon after, the food came. We had a variety of food, including mashed potatoes, sweet potato gratin, green beans, and most importantly, turkey breast. For dessert we had chocolate mousse and white mousse. This delicious and traditional food was prepared by our very nice school cooks.

We then, again, got to play and spend the rest of our day with our friends. Everybody got into tiny groups and did something else. Some created a completely new game, some crafted a thank you gift for the cooks, meanwhile others played Twister or just talked with each other.

By the end of the day, we took a class picture together and gave the thank you card to the cooks. After that, we cleaned up the room and went outside for a bit until school ended.

Altogether, everybody had a great time, and this was a fantastic experience. Learning new facts about Thanksgiving is truly nice since it has a surprising backstory. For instance, I learned that Thanksgiving originated as a harvest festival and that the first celebration in 1621 included both Pilgrims and Native Americans.

Special thanks to Mrs. Chandler, Mrs Schmitt and Ms. Tayeh for organizing this experience for us, and also to the amazing cooks who made this lovely food for us.
